In this practice, we were asked to redecorate the quad for our class. The color of class 2014 is red, so the theme color for this practice is red.

My idea is that we will spoil the fund and make a extravagance quad this year (compared to the previous years). We have limited funds allocated by the school, but that doesn’t mean we cannot ask for help! We fundraise for the decoration, and Coca Cola is generous enough to do us the favor! Plus, they use red as the simbolic color as well. Notice Coca Cola takes quite a role in the image: the light bulbs are made of the glass bottles, and the flags are printed with Coca Cola signs. Advertisement is allowed as far as it does not impair the unity of this image.

I wish the quad to be functional as well as decorative. Since Agnes Scott College emphasize the sense of community, this quad is designed for the students to gather and relax. The couch, cushions, game table and the carpet are all designated to this purpose.  I darken the background so that the lights will radiant. Also the late afternoon/night is when students actually have to to hangout. The lights/Lamp also give a hint of romantic sense.

Now what I learnt from this project:

I have never used PS before, although I wished to. I picked up very basic tools such as curving the image, pasting, adjusting size, color and hue. The most frequently used tool for this project are the dodge tool and burn tool. They are used to create the lights and shadows.

The only bummer to this image is that the original picture was taken in the morning, so the shadows of trees, which is too strong, were casted by the sun. If I had more time, I’d try to figure out how to minor the effects of these shadows.
